About ReSound Relief

ReSound Relief is an app developed by GN to help people manage tinnitus. You don’t need to be a hearing aid user to find benefits in using the app or relief from tinnitus. It is available for free in the App Store and Google Play.

It’s estimated that more than 25% of people have experienced tinnitus, with nearly ten percent experiencing it “frequently.” Tinnitus is the perception of sound when no actual external noise is present, often described as a ringing, it may also sound like a persistent clicking, buzzing, hissing or whistling. For some, it causes a substantial decrease in quality of life.

The free ReSound Relief app is deemed one of the most useful, popular and tested apps in the marketplace for relieving and managing tinnitus in both studies and according to hearing care professionals (HCPs).

As part of an overall tinnitus management program, ReSound Relief offers a combination of sound therapy, relaxing exercises, meditation and guidance--all on demand-enabling a focus on the sounds that matter.

Choosing from a soundscape library (environmental sounds and small pieces of music), users balance sounds between left and right ears and set a timer, creating a personalized, soothing experience.

Its most innovative feature is ability to custom-layer/mix sounds from the app’s library, allowing users to create their own sound experience of what sounds best to them. It has the capability to layer up to five sounds.

The app also offers engaging activities/comprehensive tips to help users better understand and develop a management plan for tinnitus, while also keeping track of how often and when they use it for their own benefit or for discussions with their hearing care professional.

ReSound Relief’s tinnitus sound therapy helps mask tinnitus, and over time, puts the focus of those with tinnitus back where it should be–allowing them to hear/experience different sounds around them.

ReSound Relief works with a Smartphone or tablet along with a Bluetooth wireless speaker headset.

Why ReSound Relief?

The ReSound Relief is highly rated by thousands of users, regularly maintained by ReSound, meets expert guidelines for health and medical apps, and is evidence-based.

This is important because an evidence-based app incorporates best practices and research in its approach to helping its users.

The ReSound Relief app was one of seven identified as evidence-based in this study: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/14992027.2017.1338762. This comes as no surprise because multiple features of the app were developed based on collaborative work with leading clinical researchers in tinnitus.

A general issue with tinnitus apps as identified and explained by the expert panel in the study is that they most often are lacking in scientific validation. Since ReSound Relief was developed, based on collaboration with leading clinical researchers, it is evidence-based and scientifically proven.

ReSound Relief earned high ratings and rapid adoption because it:

  • Considers the whole person and their concerns/issues. It’s not just a sound player or education tool but rather, it offers sound enrichment, educational information and relaxation exercises, to help with changing mindsets to better manage tinnitus, setting and tracking goals and much more
  • Provides unparalleled flexibility for building personal soundscapes yet is incredibly easy to use with no instruction. Reviews reveal people appreciated this feature most. GN’s in-app study revealed users especially liked to use the app as a sleep aid–even if tinnitus isn’t the reason for their insomnia
  • Doesn’t lock users into using certain ways or with specific therapeutic methods; can be part of more formal approach or people can just use it in ways they feel its beneficial
  • Doesn’t lock users into using certain hardware; can listen to soundscapes from phone, through headphones, speakers, hearing aids, etc.
